States and local jurisdictions have enacted and implemented airport height, hazards and land use compatibility zoning laws to varying degrees. Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) Project 04-22 evaluated the effectiveness of these laws in preventing flight hazards and incompatible land uses around general aviation (GA) airports. At this Webinar you will learn how state aviation agencies can assist local governments in establishing and implementing airport land use compatibility measures. Topics that will be discussed during this webinar include:
· Comparison between your state airport compatibility laws and neighboring states
· Best practices implemented by states to monitor and control airspace hazards and incompatible land use
o Hear from the Administrator of the Kentucky Airport Zoning Commission about its permitting authority of local land use proposals around public-use airports in the state
o Discover how a GIS-based Compatible Land Use Evaluation (CLUE) tool helped South Carolina implement 2012 legislation requiring the South Carolina Aeronautics Commission (SCAC) to monitor land use development activity around the state’s airports
o Learn how some states use the priority rating model for capital improvement funding to bring awareness to need for airport hazard/compatibility zoning
· Highlights of the ACRP Guidebook on effective land use compatibility strategies for GA airports, including strategies for state aviation agencies.
· How to best to disseminate the ACRP Guidebook to airports in your state.
