NASAO Releases New Modules in Online Aviation Training Program

Washington, DC (September 6, 2019)The National Association of State Aviation Officials (NASAO) is pleased to announce the release of three new modules, focusing on the fundamentals of airport planning, environmental planning and engineering, to the online aviation training program.

The program, which launched in Fall of 2018, is a collaboration between the NASAO Center for Aviation Research and Education, state aviation departments of transportation, aviation industry partners, and the Federal Aviation Administration. To actualize the program NASAO partnered with Jviation, Inc. to develop the modules and system platform.

The newly released course content includes:

Module 3 - Planning 101

  • Master Plans, Airport Layout Plans and Capital Improvement Plans
  • Airport System Planning
  • Statewide Air Service Development Studies
  • Economic Impact Studies
  • Land Acquisition
  • Land Use Compatibility

Module 4 - Environmental Planning 101

  • Federal Environmental Regulatory Review
  • State and Local Environmental Review Processes
  • Environmental Impact Categories
  • Sustainable Development
  • Wildlife Hazard Management at Airports

Module 5 – Engineering 101

  • FAA Design Standards
  • Construction Management
  • Project Review and Processes
  • Airport Pavement Management Program

In whole, the training is comprised of seven total primary modules, under which various topics are explored. The seven modules are: (1) Being Aware of the Airport Environment, (2) Appreciating Key Partners, (3) Aviation Planning 101, (4) Environmental Planning 101, (5) Engineering 101, (6) Essentials of Project Funding, and (7) 1-800-Citizen Hotline.

Modules six and seven will be released in early 2020. “The Center training initiative is being expanded as a comprehensive aeronautics system certification program for state aviation employees and airport stakeholders.” said Jared Esselman (UT), NASAO Center for Aviation Research and Education – Board Chairman. “This nation-wide initiative is an important step in creating a workforce training platform that can uniquely accommodate every state and add valuable new skill sets to our aviation industry.”

The new modules are being debuted this week at NASAO’s 88th Annual Convention & Tradeshow in St. Paul, MN, September 7 – 11.
