NASAO - FAA Memorandums of Understanding Established for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and Runway Safety

(Washington DC – December 17, 2019) Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) have been established between the National Association of State Aviation Officials (NASAO) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), furthering the longstanding relationship between the two organizations. The signing took place on Friday, December 13, 2019 at the FAA Headquarter in Washington DC. Both Memorandums were signed by FAA Administrator Steve Dickson, and NASAO Chair John Binder.

The MOUs seek to address key issues through continued collaboration on federal and state levels. Each of the MOUs outline the key objectives, action goals, and the overall process and structure to work towards the stated goals.

Objective of the Unmanned Aircraft Systems MOU: “FAA and NASAO will explore methods of working collaboratively to provide information on current and proposed UAS rules and authorization of UAS operations, enhance outreach, education, and information sharing, as well as increase awareness of UAS activities within the states.”

Objective of the Runway Safety MOU: “FAA and NASAO will explore methods of working collaboratively to provide and disseminate information on runway safety in order to reduce both incursion and excursions at airports.”

“NASAO looks forward to the continued partnership with the FAA in order to enhance education opportunities and information exchange on these key aviation topics,” stated John Binder, NASAO Chair.
